Nick’s Friday Round-Up

Let me set the scene. You're playing an intense FPS. You're about to turn to pwn a n00b with an impeccably accurate headshot, when all the sudden you're hand slips on the mouse from hand-sweat, and you miss the shot, only to be noticed by the n00b and killed in a flurry of bullets. *insert Sarah Mclachlan ASPCA background music* Well now you don't have to worry about that problem, with this mouse from Thermaltake. It's got a built-on USB fan, to evaporate that nasty palm-sweat away. [geekologie] BONUS: And for the winter time when your hands are freezing, try USB toast handwarmers [thinkgeek]

Let's say you're a bad guy in a video game. If the video game were real life, what would it look like from the bad guy's perspective as they try to kill the hero? [howtogeek]

What's it like to be one of Bowser's kids? This video gives you a peek at the Bowser family, and it's dis-functionality. All he wants to do is kidnap a princess. Is that so much to ask? IS IT?!? [howtogeek]

What's one of the best Final Fantasy games ever made? FFVII of course! If you never had a Playstation, then your sorry butt missed out. Until now. *DUN* *dun* *DUUUUUNNNN* Final Fantasy VII is coming to PC. Get your game on! (yes, that was a Yu-Gi-Oh! reference in a paragraph talking about Final Fantasy. Don't judge me.) [geekosystem]

Are you a fan of Angry Birds, or are you sick and tired of hearing about it? Either way, here's a game similar to Angry Birds, but with pirates. That right there is reason enough to give it a play. It's actually pretty fun, and I might go as far to say, that, in my opinion, I prefer it over Angry Birds. Here is Fort Blaster: Ahoy There. [howtogeek]

Nick’s Friday Round-Up: I’ve Spent Way Too Much Time Trying to Think of a Title Edition

Whenever I can, I like to start off my posts with food. Why? Because... food... What other reason do you need? So you know how awesome it is when you make that perfect pancake. And by "perfect pancake" I mean when you flip it over and it doesn't break. Well allow this guy to completely show you up. Enjoy some amazing pancake art. [geekologie]

It's Friday. Friday. Gotta post a sequel on Friday. Do you see where I'm going with this? *insert trollface* The "Poor man's Usher" has released an official sequel to the song "Friday". If you were looking forward to some Rebecca Black, I'm sorry to disappoint. It's just fake Usher. BUT... it's actually a pretty funny video. [geekosystem]

Unless you're one of the 7 people in the world who've been on a journey to deliver some kind of ring to a volcano, just so you can melt it down for scrap, then you know the Avenger's movie came out last week. If you've seen the movie, then you know that, *MINI-SPOILER* the city gets smashed up pretty bad. *END MINI-SPOILER* Of course you're thinking to yourself, "What if you were to calculate the damages and put them into an actual monetary value? What would it cost to repair everything?" Well wonder no more. [blastr]

For those of you who follow Lisa on twitter, then you know she steals potential content for my Round-Ups and links them to her followers. I'm pretty sure she does it just to spite me, but ya know what. I DON'T CARE. I'm gonna link it anyway. HAH! IN YOUR FACE LISA FOILES! Now everybody go watch this video of a guy playing the Tetris theme on a laser harp. Yes... a laser harp. [geekologie]

Everybody at one time in their life has watched Star Wars and thought to themselves how they would just love to be frozen in carbonite. Well your dream has come true! For the low low cost of $100 and a trip to a Disney theme park, you can make this dream a reality. Sort-of... [buzzfeed]

QUICK, name 2 things that we all love, and can't believe haven't been combined yet! If you guessed Cheez Whiz and socks.... something is clearly wrong with you. If you guess R2-D2 and coffee... DING DING DING, YOU WIN! [geekologie]

(True story. I bought two laundry baskets. One for clean clothes. One for dirty clothes.)

Computer case modding has been a thing for quite a while. Screw you, iPad! I've seen some insane case mods, but once in a great while you run across one that completely wins the internet. This one has done that such thing. An AT-AT case mod, for your viewing pleasure. [geekosystem]

We have SO MANY videogames these days with so many genres. Some of them are amazing, while most of them are forgotten about. Even the great games could be made even better with a few tweaks. Here are 6 of the greatest video games we'll never get to play. Or maybe we could... Kickstarter anyone? [cracked]

Those crazy people down at Ubisoft have finally released an actual gameplay trailer for Assassin's Creed 3. I'm totally feeling this. Seriously... a bear. You get to fight a bear. If they're anything like the bears in Skyrim, then this is some SRS BSNS! [joystiq]

Speaking of Skyrim... I haven't talked about that in quite a while. Remember back in the day when I posted about that every week? Ah, yes... those were the days. Ok, so how about this. An Alduin dragon Skyrim cake. Legit baking skills are legit. [geekologie]

Speaking of Skyrim... Guess what's being developed into an MMO? The Elder Scrolls! It's been a long time coming, but we finally have a sneak peak. The Elder Scrolls Online teaser. [youtube]

You know when you get that urge to play Wolfenstein 3D, and you have to break out the 3 1/2" Floppy disks? Well, you can throw those disks away! Wait... you already have? What do you mean "what's a 3 1/2" Floppy disk?" You know what... screw you guys. Go play the game in your browser for free. [geekosystem]

This right here is something that NEEDS to be mass produced. A homemade RC Transformer. Not only is it RC'd as a vehicle, but it transforms, and can be completely controlled in it's robot form. It transforms without help, and doesn't fall over. TAKE MY MONEY NOW! [geekologie]

To finish it off, here's a guy who legally changed his name to Tyrannosaurus Rex. [geekosystem]

Nick’s Friday Round-Up: It’ll Rock Your Face Off, but Only at First Edition

This morning I got woken up by a ton of banging downstairs. When I was finally able to open my eyes and get up, I met my dad in the hallway. It turns out a giant grey squirrel got in the house and my cat was chasing it all over the place. The squirrel got upstairs and ran across my dad while he was laying in bed, followed by my cat. Long story short, my dad was able to open the window and let the squirrel run out. My cat almost followed, but managed to stop before jumping out the second story window. COOL STORY, BRO!

This week has been pretty lackluster with interesting links and stories to post about, with a couple exceptions, so you're just going to have to live with the stuff I give you!

Let's start out with the awesome stuff first... BORDERLANDS 2 TRAILER! Because it's so awesome, I'm not even going to link it. I'm going to post the actual video here. ENJOY!

How can I follow up a video game trailer as awesome as that? Easy... with this! MASS EFFECT 3: TAKE EARTH BACK cinematic trailer! Also provided here, link-free!

Now that the awesome stuff is out of the way, we can move on to the more milder things.  Such as...

Have you ever looked at Batman and wondered what he would look like if he was alive back in medieval times? No, not the dinner and show, the actual historical time. Well wonder no more! [geekologie]

LOOK! UP IN THE SKY! IT'S A BIRD! IT'S A PLANE! NO.... IT'S... THE DEATH STAR!! Now how in the world could you confuse the Death Star with a bird or plane? Seriously people, open your eyes! What if the Death Star were an actual real thing? How much would it actually cost to build something like that, and how long? Well some fancy schmancy college kids decided to put their heads together and come up with an actual cost. [gammasquad]

A guy by the name of Ulises Farinas decided he'd draw a mural. A mural of Tatooine. A mural of Tatooine with a bunch of sci-fi characters in it. A very large mural of Tatooine with a bunch of sci-fi characters in it, with rumors that Waldo is also hidden somewhere in said mural. Sadly, it looks like Carmen Sandiego has alluded us once again. [geekosystem]

Those Make-a-Wish kids get all the coolest things, including a giant drivable R2-D2. Yep. Luckiest kid on earth. Apparently this WAS the droid he was looking for. [geekologie]

Somebody had to say it.

You know how in all those cartoons and movies, when people are looking for a hidden door, they always start pulling books that are conveniently positioned on a book case near the hidden door in question. What if you could actually create a real life hidden book switch that could open a hidden door, turn on a light, release a boxing glove that comes out and punches you in the face, or pretty much whatever you wanted it to do? WELL YOU CAN! YOUR CHILDHOOD DREAM CAN BECOME A REALITY! [howtogeek]

What's cooler than being cool snowboarding at night? How about snowboarding at night while emitting your own light created by the LED snow suit you made. Just add some wings and you'll look like an angel coming down the hill, or a ghost that failed it's Transparency 101 class. [geekologie]

Still playing Skyrim? I know I am, especially with the new Skyrim Steam Worshop release. Here's a list of the top 10 Skyrim Steam Workshop mods. Pet dragon anyone? [ugo]

Here's a little bit of good news on the Fringe front. It looks like Twitter hashtags might just save Fringe from being cancelled. (please please please please let this work!) [blastr]

Lastly I'll leave you with a funny video of Mario vs The Indestructible Castle. [howtogeek]

Nick’s Friday Round-Up: Angry A.D.D. Edition

Mmmm, I sure hope those pizza-shaped marshmallows taste as good as they look!

I don't know how I'm suppose to follow-up Lisa's post from yesterday with some crappy Friday Round-Up, but here we go.

In relation to the opening picture. CEREAL IS AWESOME! I LOVE CEREAL! One thing that makes me sad about cereal nowadays is the fact that they never put good prizes in them anymore. What the heck?!? I remember when you could buy a box of cereal, and get a full-sized Ninja Turtle as a prize inside! (that previous statement may be slightly exaggerated for emphasis) /mini-rant Cereal boxes have changed their marketing over the years to appeal to a different generation of kids. Here are 15 examples of how cereal boxes have changed over time. [buzzfeed]

We've become very familiar with how some of the biggest websites look. Usually they're clean and stream-lined and can go 0-60 in under 5 seconds. Unless you're on dial-up, in which case, I pity you. Let us take a quick trip back in time to see how websites such as Google and Youtube looked like when they first launched, shall we? [mashable]

This right here will be the only thing I post, related to Single's Awareness Day. I will spare you all from a Nick Rant about how ridiculous I think this day is. So yeah... here are 35 geeky Valentine's Day cards. [gammasquad]

MOVING ON!

Apparently the Super Bowl Half Time Show was a secret ode to Skyrim

Looking back to last Sunday and the Super Bowl halftime show. SRSLY?? C'mon... SRSLY? When will the people in charge of finding these performers realize that they are making horrible choices. The only person not lip syncing was Cee Lo. Who actually thought that having Madonna do the HT show was a good idea? UGH! /mini rant. There are only a couple halftime shows that I consider to be awesome. SB XXXVII with No Doubt, and SB XXVII with Michael Jackson. SB XXXV with Aerosmith wasn't too bad either. I got to thinking who would be an amazing person to play the halftime show? Strangely enough I then found this article. BRILLIANT! Why Weird Al should play the Super Bowl. [gammasquad]

Back to the Future. One of the best trilogy's to ever grace the silver screen, but what about the stage? There's a possibility of BTTF becoming a stage musical. [blastr]

With the sponsorship of Red Bull, a man attempts to break the sound barrier without any vehicle, only his body, by jumping from a height of 22 miles. It makes all the sense in the world! Let's do a skydive, in a space suit, from just under the ozone layer so as to not burst into flames, and try to break the sound barrier with my body, because, hey, SCREW YOU TERMINAL VELOCITY! [geekologie]

What happens when two of the best video games from completely different time periods collide? A MASS EXPLOSION OF AWESOME! Skyrim, meet Portal 2. Portal 2, Skyrim. That's right folks, not only did Skyrim officially release their mod tools with a bonus Portal 2 mod, BUT hidden within these releases are hints to either a Portal 2 related quest, or a future Portal 2 related quest. Seriously, my brain can't handle this. [geekosystem]

This kid decided to say "Screw you!" to his DNA encoded fear of falling. Then he decides to do parkour from the edge of the roof of a 20 story building, and the arm of a massive crane. My legs were shaking just watching this guy. You know... that feeling you get in your legs when you get too close to the edge of a high place? Yeah, that feeling. [dailywhat]

Here are 25 animals who think they're people. [buzzfeed]

There are very few shows that can literally make me laugh out loud during nearly every episode. Even fewer that make me laugh so hard I can't breathe. A few examples are Home Improvement, Psych, Friends, The Big Bang Theory, and the newest addition, New Girl. New Girl has made me laugh more in just the last 2 episodes, than I have at any show in a long time. As of 2 weeks ago, New Girl had one of the funniest scenes I've ever seen from  any show ever in the history of television. If you disagree, your argument will be marked as invalid on the basis of "your sense of humor is broken, and may God have mercy on your soul." Here is the scene I speak of. I warn you now to put down any food or drink you may be consuming at the moment. [youtube]

My my, Batman, you're looking quite dapper this evening.

Nick’s Friday Round-Up: Only PARTIALLY Super Bowl Related Edition

HELLOOOOOOOOO SAVEPOINT!! IF YOU CAN'T TELL, I'M A BIT OVER-CAFFEINATED. THIS PAST WEDNESDAY WAS MY BIRTHDAY, AND MY PARENTS GOT ME AN ESPRESSO/CAPPUCCINO MAKER. WOOOHOOO!!! Ok... slow, deep breathes... I think I'm good now. Let's DO THIS!

As we all know, this Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday. A day where people all around the world come together to stuff their faces with empty calorie foods, and not get judged for it. Also, to watch football. Now, if you want my opinion, which you probably don't, but I'm going to give it to you anyway, I usually always enjoy the Super Bowl, however, I don't like either team playing this year, so I hope nobody wins. Score 0:0. First tie in Super Bowl history. Giants suck. Patriots suck. Cowboys FOREVER! Yeah, THAT'S RIGHT! COME AT ME, BRO! So in celebration of this year's crappy Super Bowl, I'll start off with a few SB related links.

Let's begin with 5 reasons NOT to watch the Super Bowl this year. [bleacherreport]

We all know that a lot of people don't even care about football, and only watch the Super Bowl because of the commercials. I can respect that. Some of the best commercials ever have spawned from the Super Bowl. Here are the 5 funniest Super Bowl ads that aren't Doritos. [bleacherreport]

If you recall, a couple weeks ago, I posted a link to a teaser ad with a bunch of dogs barking the Imperial March. Well if you can't wait until the Super Bowl to watch it, here's the actual commercial that will be playing. How do you think it compares to last year's L'il Vader commercial? [blastr]

Did any of you see the teaser ad with Ferris Bueller? Well once again, if you're too lazy to wait until SB Sunday, here's the full ad that will be airing. [geekosystem]

Jerry Seinfeld + Soup Nazi = another SB ad you can watch before it airs. [geekosystem]

Ok, here's a Super Bowl ad, from Budweiser, that will ONLY be airing in Canada, so it's not a spoiler for the rest of us, since we won't be seeing it anyway. It's not a funny ad, but one of those "heart-warming" style commercials. But don't let that deter you, it's still a good commercial. [buzzfeed]

OK ENOUGH ABOUT THE SUPER BOWL!

If you're like me, you know a lot of people who are completely ignorant when it comes to computers, and that's the nice way of putting it. The second something goes wrong, they have NO CLUE what to do, and totally freak out. Then they either come to me to have me take time out of my day to fix it, or drop $200 to have it fixed by a computer repair shop. When if they took a little time, they could run a couple programs, and completely fixed the problem by themselves, without having to waste my time, or going into debt. For all of you people like that, here's 5 things you should know before trying to fix your computer. [cracked]

Ever wanted to build your own Borderlands Claptrap, or more accurately CL4P-TP? Well this guy did. It may not move around or talk, but it's still pretty dang awesome. [baronriot]

Hill Valley re-created with LEGOS. That should be incentive enough to click the link. [geekologie]

Have you ever looked at a video game controller and thought to yourself, "Man I wish I could wash myself with that thing." I know Lisa sure has. Well now all your dreams have come true, and not only with controllers, but other geeky things as well. How about scrub-a-dub-dubbing it up with a Rubix Cube? [geekosystem]

Click the picture to see a larger version.

HOLY EVERYTHING THAT'S HOLY! NEW NINJA TURTLE ACTION FIGURES! Move over little snot-nosed 12 year old kiddies, these suckers are MINE! [geekologie]

Thursday was Groundhog day, and if you're anybody who's anybody you have love the movie. It's a classic, and hilarious, and is on the list of required movies to watch or be shunned by humanity for the rest of your life. So with that said, here are 12 things you probably didn't know about the movie. [buzzfeed]

Whether you love 3D movies, or hate them, the honest truth is they're here to stay, and aren't you tired of the same old black, uncomfortable 3D glasses? For the release of the upcoming Avengers movie, you can get a pair of special edition 3D glasses for an extra $5.00. I'm sure they'll be more comfortable, and you can wear them to other 3D movies as well, and be the envy of all your black-glasses-wearing friends. [ology]

Remember the Abominable Snow Monster from the most awesomazing Microsoft Windows game, Ski Free? Well it looks like he's getting a bit more creative in trying to catch the skier as he ski's down the endless mountain-side. [howtogeek]

Finally, if you recall a few weeks ago I presented you with a video called Skyrim 2012, created by the GroBroPros. Well it seems it was so popular, that the guys have made a part 2. Let us watch, and bask in the hilarity, shall we? [gammasquad]

Nick’s Friday Round-Up: BLOW… YOUR… MIND… EDITION

That was your mind, and that's the little girl who doesn't give two flying flips about it. Nick's Round-Up for Friday the 13th has begun. I'm gonna start of small and build up to the mind explosion. Let us commence.

I'll begin with something food-related. I'm actually a pretty good cook. Especially when it comes to baking. I've never had any training, so for any of us in the same boat, we tend to believe some things about cooking that are actually lies, ALL LIES!! Here are 9 ridiculous cooking myths that most of you probably thought to be truths. HAHA, SUCKERS! Oh wait... I have to admit, believed a couple of them. Maybe now, Lisa will be able to cook something besides cereal... Probably not. [cracked]

Here's a bit of nostalgia. I remember growing up, waking up early every Saturday to watch cartoons. When Saturday-morning cartoons were GOOD. Not like the crap they show today. Here are some cartoons from the 1990's that we want back, and that today's generation could benefit from. Maybe they'll actually grow some brain cells back that they've lost from the complete stupidity of today's cartoons.[ugo]

I'm not one to ever have any kind of interest in makeup, but this particular line actually caught my eye. A new brand called Fotoshop by Adobé. Remove wrinkles with a swipe of the brush. Lose those 40 extra pounds and reshape your body without the mess of surgery. It also works for men, animals, landscapes, and pretty much whatever you want to change. Check it out. Fotoshop by Adobé [vimeo]

Google Maps has given us a few lulz now and then with things they've captured as they've intrusively driven down our streets, taking pictures. Some of the things they've caught, they've actually had to blur out. This instance, as of yesterday, was not blurred. Sadly I just now checked it, and they blurred it. GRRRR. However, you can still see it, even with the blur.  Just click on the blur. The blur is a woman walking. You won't be disappoint. [google maps] UPDATE: I found a website that saved the original pictures. Now you can fully enjoy the lulz! [flowerpoop]

As you all know, I love Skyrim. If you haven't figured that out by now, well then, apparently you don't read my Round-Ups very often, which is your own loss. Have you ever thought to yourself, "I wonder what Skyrim would be like in the present day?" Well, the good people at GroBroPros, on youtube, have created a video of that very thing. Here is SKYRIM 2012 [youtube]

You remember watching The Street Fighter series, right? Well our good pals at TheGameStation have created a new video spoof of the show Pawn Stars, creatively called, PWN Stars. If you don't laugh during this video, you've either never watched Pawn Stars, or never played any Legend of Zelda games. In either case, you're dead to me. [youtube]

I've been holding on to this link for the past few weeks. Since before Christmas. I believe now is the time to post it to you. A company in France has developed a special lighting display called CT Light Concept. Basically, it's able to project a 3D-style lighting display onto buildings, and thus opening new areas of awesome! Let the mind-blowing begin! [gammasquad]

If you've ever been to NYC or LA or Vancouver, or well, basically any big city with a good source of tourism, then you've seen a busker or two. a.k.a. street performer. I've seen people with some pretty amazing talents, but NOTHING quite like this. This guy absolutely blows me away. Apparently he didn't listen when his mom told him not to finger-paint on the walls, and it's a good thing he didn't. Whenever I finger-paint, it comes out looking like this. Whatever... I suck. Just watch the video. [youtube]

Here ya go. You can thank me later. [b3ta]

AND NOW... THE MOST EPIC THING YOU WILL EVER SEE, EVER! EVER! I tried to prepare you for this a couple days ago. I honestly don't think there's enough time to be able to train yourself to handle something this awesomazing. Maybe a mute monk up in the mountains of somewhere, with 50 years of training, but other than that, no. I am not responsible for anything that may happen to you during the viewing of this video. You can't say I didn't warn you. Lisa, if there's one thing you click on in all my Round-Ups, this would be the thing. [youtube]

Nick’s Friday Round-Up: 2011 Round-Up Edition

Batman was once a kid like me, but then he took a bullet to the parents. (do you see what I did there?)

HELLO SAVE POINT-IANS!!!... Save Point-ers? hmmm... We'll figure it out one day. How was your 2011? Mine was crazy. Probably the most crazy year of my life. Tons of awesome things, a few crappy things, but out of all of it, I wouldn't have traded this year for anything. It was definitely a great adventure.

Ok, enough about me, let's get into this thing!

Let's begin on a low point... sort-of. You know every year you make some vague New Year's resolution, with full intent on keeping it... for about 2 weeks. Ever wonder why it is you can never keep your resolutions? Here are 5 reasons you're gonna fail your New Year's resolution. [cracked]

This year has given us a lot of crappy stuff from the sci-fi world, as well as things we thought would be crappy, but turned out awesome. Let's dwell on the good, and review the biggest and the best from sci-fi entertainment from 2011. [blastr]

What are a few things we absolutely love, here on Save Point? Well, there's Back to the Future, Star Wars, old school Nintendo games, Batman, and... Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! As it turns out, the co-creator of TMNT is auctioning off EVERYTHING in his office, for charity. Now, before you think to yourself, "Why the crap would I buy some dude's stapler?", why don't click the link and go on a tour of his office. inb4brainexplosionofawesome [geekosystem]

I'm just gonna leave this here. [geekosystem]

I have 3 different lists about video games, from 2011, for you.
List 1: Weirdest games of 2011 [ign]
List 2: Top 10 games of 2011 according to Gamma Squad [gammasquad]
List 3: Well, it's not really a list, per se, but a very well-made video pieced together with clips of some of the best games of 2011. [howtogeek]

Remember that bearded dragon playing video games that I showed you a few weeks ago? Well he has a new challenger. The African Bullfrog! This frog takes his video games as SRS BSNS! Fair warning: Don't be near him when he rage quits. [geekologie]

SO THIS GUY IS ASIAN OF THE DAY: This fellow plays one of those basketball games you see at places like Mr. Gatti's or Chuck-E-Cheese. Apparently he had to steal all the basketballs from the other games next to him, in order to do this, but... WOW. Just wow. Whenever I play that game, I make like maybe 2 baskets. I suck at sports... =( [geekologie]

The gaming community has been begging Nintendo for this for a loooong time, with Nintendo saying they would never do it. Well apparently they lied, which is good for all of us, because now it sheds some light on the subject. I present to you the official timeline for The Legend of Zelda. [geekosystem]
As a BONUS, I present to you another type of Zelda timeline. [BONUS]

To finish up this post, as well as the 2011 year, I present to you, my two most favorite videos in this Round-Up.

The best WINS and FAILS of 2011.
