Nick’s Friday Round-Up: 2011 Round-Up Edition

Batman was once a kid like me, but then he took a bullet to the parents. (do you see what I did there?)

HELLO SAVE POINT-IANS!!!... Save Point-ers? hmmm... We'll figure it out one day. How was your 2011? Mine was crazy. Probably the most crazy year of my life. Tons of awesome things, a few crappy things, but out of all of it, I wouldn't have traded this year for anything. It was definitely a great adventure.

Ok, enough about me, let's get into this thing!

Let's begin on a low point... sort-of. You know every year you make some vague New Year's resolution, with full intent on keeping it... for about 2 weeks. Ever wonder why it is you can never keep your resolutions? Here are 5 reasons you're gonna fail your New Year's resolution. [cracked]

This year has given us a lot of crappy stuff from the sci-fi world, as well as things we thought would be crappy, but turned out awesome. Let's dwell on the good, and review the biggest and the best from sci-fi entertainment from 2011. [blastr]

What are a few things we absolutely love, here on Save Point? Well, there's Back to the Future, Star Wars, old school Nintendo games, Batman, and... Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! As it turns out, the co-creator of TMNT is auctioning off EVERYTHING in his office, for charity. Now, before you think to yourself, "Why the crap would I buy some dude's stapler?", why don't click the link and go on a tour of his office. inb4brainexplosionofawesome [geekosystem]

I'm just gonna leave this here. [geekosystem]

I have 3 different lists about video games, from 2011, for you.
List 1: Weirdest games of 2011 [ign]
List 2: Top 10 games of 2011 according to Gamma Squad [gammasquad]
List 3: Well, it's not really a list, per se, but a very well-made video pieced together with clips of some of the best games of 2011. [howtogeek]

Remember that bearded dragon playing video games that I showed you a few weeks ago? Well he has a new challenger. The African Bullfrog! This frog takes his video games as SRS BSNS! Fair warning: Don't be near him when he rage quits. [geekologie]

SO THIS GUY IS ASIAN OF THE DAY: This fellow plays one of those basketball games you see at places like Mr. Gatti's or Chuck-E-Cheese. Apparently he had to steal all the basketballs from the other games next to him, in order to do this, but... WOW. Just wow. Whenever I play that game, I make like maybe 2 baskets. I suck at sports... =( [geekologie]

The gaming community has been begging Nintendo for this for a loooong time, with Nintendo saying they would never do it. Well apparently they lied, which is good for all of us, because now it sheds some light on the subject. I present to you the official timeline for The Legend of Zelda. [geekosystem]
As a BONUS, I present to you another type of Zelda timeline. [BONUS]

To finish up this post, as well as the 2011 year, I present to you, my two most favorite videos in this Round-Up.

The best WINS and FAILS of 2011.
WINS:  [youtube]
FAILS: [youtube]

I wish you all a very happy and awesomazing New Year. Please be safe and don't drive drunk. If you do find yourself in this situation, without a designated driver, a few AAA clubs are offering FREE Tipsy Tow service on New Years Eve/Day. This service is for EVERYONE, not just club members. Nick’s Friday Round-Up: Let’s Get Creative Edition

Poor Navi. She's only trying to help. =(

How are you my fellow gamers? This week has been pretty post-heavy on Save Point, which is a good thing. Now it's time for all the cool stuff we didn't tell you about. WOOHOO!

It's amazing how technology has become so intuitive that even a bearded dragon, on his basic instincts alone, can play a video game. Dare i say this would be the first bearded dragon to ever play a video game, and probably better than you. [geekosystem]

As a kid, I grew up with LEGO's. To be honest, I wasn't that great at building anything fancier than a house. I mean, you have the green, rectangular base, and you build on top of that, but you couldn't really build anything that wasn't some kind of boxy (not boxxy) looking vehicle, or anything outside the shape of a rectangle. Well guess what. One guy said, "Screw that!" and started making circles and wheels and all kinds of amazing shapes. [brickbending]

Speaking of awesome toys growing up. Let's take a trip down nostalgia lane, with the 90's kid's Christmas list. I can personally that say I owned 10 things on this list at one point. Except, where the heck are the slap bracelets? Oh yeah... they got banned from schools. -_- LAAAMMMEEE!! [buzzfeed]

Last week it snowed in my neck of the woods. The day after it snowed, I decided to try to make a snowman... with lack-luster results. And by "lack-luster results" I mean "I couldn't do it". To my defense, the snow was too fluffy and wouldn't stick together. NEXT TIME, SNOW.... NEXT TIME! I'm guessing the people who created these snowmen knew exactly what type of snow is needed to make these amazing works of nerd art. [gammasquad]

Awesome snowmen isn't where the Christmas creativity ends, not by a long shot. How about taking gingerbread and turning it into an AT-AT. Yeah that's right, or Serenity, the fastest ship in the verse. Take a look at 20 awesome sci-fi gingerbread creations. [blastr]

Remember back in elementary school, around Christmas time, your teacher would sit everybody down and have you all make snowflakes out of folded paper? Remember how yours always turned out looking like Fido got a hold of it? Wouldn't it be nice to go back in time and create super 1337 Star Wars snowflakes, pwning all the other 6 year-olds, and shoving your sick snowflake-making skills in their faces?  Yeah... that WOULD be nice. Sadly, without a TARDIS or a DeLorian this isn't possible, but you can take satisfaction in knowing that at least you can learn how to make such awesomeness now. Star Wars Snowflakes. [anthonyherreradesigns]

Darth Vader, using the force, to create a Christmas choir flash mob. Yes, this happened. My only complaint... needs moar Darth Vader ripping on the electric guitar. [buzzfeed]

Speaking of Darth Vader, why not combine two of the most evil sci-fi villains and mash them up into a bust (not that kind of bust, you pervs) of pure awesomazingness. I present to you, Skelvader! Or is it Darthetor? hmmm... [geekologie]

MIND BLOWN OF THE DAY: A team of guys at MIT have created an imaging system a.k.a. fancy camera, that records 1,000,000,000,000 (that's one trillion) frames per second. As a result it's able to record the speed of light. THAT'S RIGHT FOLKS, you can watch light as it moves toward an object to illuminate it. [gammasquad]

What Friday Round-Up would be complete without some Skyrim links? You knew it was coming. How about a Dragonborn helmet made out of bacon. [geekosystem]

A guy by the name of Benjamin S. has created a mod for the PC version of Skyrim, that let's you speak dragon shouts into your microphone, allowing you to cast them in the game. It has a bit of lag between saying it, and when it happens, but it's still quicker then going into your inventory and selecting different shouts. [geekologie]

To finish up, I'll leave you with a cockatiel whistling the Mario theme song. [geekologie] Ok, cockatiel, now do the theme from Zelda...

Nick’s Friday Round-Up: Thanksgiving Leftovers Edition

Yesterday was a day of giving thanks, and as American's, consuming gratuitous amounts of turkey and other foods, is how we celebrate. God bless America! The day after thanksgiving is just as sweet, with all the leftovers. You gotta love a good hearty turkey sammich. MmmMmm good. So this week's Round-Up is chock full of Thanksgiving leftovers.

As you're sitting there, enjoying your turkey sammich, sitting in your living room chair, why don't you entertain yourself with 14 of the best Thanksgiving episodes from "Sci-Fi" TV shows. The Buffy episode happens to be my personal favorite. [blastr]

I've never actually had a turducken before. It's just a bit too much to handle, but I would be more than happy to have a Cherpumple. A cherry pie, pumpkin pie and apple pie baked inside a 3 layer cake. *droooool* [buzzfeed]

Thanksgiving wouldn't be complete without the turkey, and don't even give me your crap about a tofurky. GET THE HECK OUT OF HERE WITH THAT TOFURKY! Ok, sorry... (not really) Now wouldn't it be even greater with that sense of accomplishment knowing that you hunted your own Thanksgiving turkey? Yes it would. So go ahead and learn how to be a turkey hunter. (lulz will happen) [geekosystem]

Everyone loves and appreciates a good infograph. You can find one for anything, including Thanksgiving. [buzzfeed]

Thanksgiving wouldn't be complete without watching the Cowboy's football game. This year's game was 82% better than usual, simply because of the super hot Dallas Cowboy's Cheerleader that got tackled by one of the players. [youtube]

I've mentioned leftover Thanksgiving sammiches a few different times during this post. I now present to you 24 of the best looking Thanksgiving leftover sammiches you've ever seen. [buzzfeed]

I'll leave you with something non-Thanksgiving related. If you're anything like me, you've been playing Skyrim like crazy, and still not yet even put a dent in the game, but if you've powered though and actually run out of map to explore, why not travel through Morrowind and Oblivion as well... Inside the Skyrim game. [geekosystem]

Three words. BACON. COVERED. TURKEY.
