Nick’s Friday Round-Up

I'll start this week with something pretty awesome. The Hylian Shield made completely out of LEGOs. [geekologie]

Borderlands 2 is sitting high on the hog with its success, and there's a reason for that. It's a remorseless addiction machine, and here's 5 reasons why. [cracked]

A couple weeks ago I showed you a Mega-Man hoodie and an Assassin's Creed hoodie. Now, to add to your collection, here's an Optimus Prime hoodie. Can you tell it's hoodie season? [geekologie]

I now present to you a life-changing invention. An invention that will make you feel so stupid that you didn't think of it yourself. The Dorito's grinder hack. [buzzfeed]

The next few links will be strictly Star Wars related. You can thank me in the comments. First, I present to you, the battle of Hoth completely recreated in Minecraft using the actual audio from the movie. [blastr]

For those of you motorcycle enthusiasts, I'm looking at you, Lisa, here's one that's Boba Fett themed. [geekologie]

Here's something to feed your nightmares. The head sculpture of Yoda, re-imagined as if he were human...esqe. [gammasquad]

To finish out the Star Wars related links, those crazy people down at DARPA, have created a real-life AT-TE... well... as close to an IRL version as we can get. It may only have 4 legs, but it gets the job done, and MAN, is it super creepy! [blastr]

It's been 20 years since Cartoon Network has hit the airwaves. As a "thank you for watching" from the network, they managed to come up with a fan-service, drug-induced, super-trippy video. Seriously... what in the world? [geekosystem]

Most of the time, when you play video games, you don't think twice about defeating a level boss. Next time, sit back and think about who it is you're defeating, because they just might be the victim, and not the villain. [cracked]

I'M BATMAN! Ok, so I wasn't Batman in this particular instance. Batman was arrested... again... for, basically, being dressed as Batman, and refusing to leave a crime scene. [blastr]

Who doesn't enjoy a good easter egg in a video game? Every once in a while you'll get a celebrity appearance or two. Sometimes, they're cool, but other times it's just down right weird. [dorkly]

I shall finish out this weeks round-up with a super-insane Rube Goldberg machine, parkour style!  [gammasquad]

Nick’s Friday Round-Up

Why is World of Warcraft the biggest MMO in the world? You'd think people would get bored of it and quit, but that doesn't seem to happen. Here are 6 reasons why it's impossible to quit WoW. [cracked]

Valve received a very special gift from the WETA workshop. Nothing too crazy or anything, just a fully functioning Portal turret, that's all. [geekosystem]

What do you do when you wake up in the morning (now the Saved by the Bell theme song is stuck in your head) and you want to know the weather for the day, but can't bring yourself to get in the internet before you've had your coffee and toast? You purchase a toaster that burns the days weather into the side of the toast for you, that's what. [geekologie]

For those of us who've always wanted to shoot that stupid dog, from Duck Hunt, in the face for laughing at us, well now you can, with this NES zapper that's been modded into a real burning laser. [geekosystem]

Now let's jump from an amazing weapon to the 15 worst weapons in videogame history. [dorkly]

We move on to the most annoying weapon ever created in any videogame ever, on any planet, in any dimension. The Hyperion Energizing Bane from Borderlands 2. It may be one of the most powerful guns ever, but can you handle the troll factor that it throws at you for using it? [geekosystem]

There have been many people who have said that Borderlands 2 is way too difficult. Well hey, guess what. URDOINITWRONG! [gammasquad]

Here are some amazing pics of Link visiting the Lon Lon Ranch as imagined in real life. Also, click through to visit The Zelda Project. [geekologie]

For all you Trekkies out there who also love your cookies, your 2 favorite things have been merged. Star Trek cookie cutters. [geekologie]

This is a huge blow for bacon lovers all over the world. There is literally a worldwide bacon shortage! I can just hear all your tears flooding your bedrooms right now. [geekologie]

You know what I haven't posted in a while? an OMG ADORBZ OF THE DAY! Well, I shall fix this right now. A baby that stops crying every time it hears the Star Wars theme song. [blastr]

For those of you who are still confused about the Star Wars and what's really going on, here's a minimalistic, informative infograph for you. [murera]

For all you fancy schmancy pants Star Wars fans, here are some luxury-style, limited edition Star Wars watches you can purchase with all your fancy schmancy pants money. [geekologie]

As a tribute to science fiction stuffs, here are 32 fan-built sci-fi LEGO creations. [dvice]

In some, "Really... are you seriously, freakin' kidding me?" news, "cowabunga" is being replaced with "booyakasha". Guys, you can't make this stuff up. [blastr]

And finally, here's an SUV driving down the road that gets struck by a bolt of lightning. "What did you say?" "A bolt of lightning. Unfortunately, you never know when or where it's ever gonna strike." Seriously though, what are the chances that a guy is going to be recording himself driving down the road and happens to capture a bolt of lightning hitting a vehicle. The odds are ridiculous. Nick’s Friday Round-Up

I believe a rock remix of Legend of Zelda is a good way to start off this weeks Round-Up. Seriously, I could listen to this all day. Side Note: I own that same shirt. (pics or it didn't happen... Zelda Shirt) [geekologie]

If that's not awesome enough for you, how about a General Grievous look-alike robot, playing drums. [gammasquad]

I'll follow that up with a Mario meets Modern Warfare trailer video. [geekosystem]

Ever wondered what Batman, Catwoman, and Bane would look like if they existed in 1930s Shanghai? [buzzfeed]

After forever of wanting it, there's finally going to be a Metal Gear Solid movie. [blastr]

Not long ago we got the Dawnguard expansion for Skyrim. Well right on the heels of that, we have another expansion. Hearthfire will be releasing September 4th. [geekosystem]

I haven't played any of the GTA games in quite a long time. They were fun, but got repetitive and boring. However, with this new mod, it just might give me a renewed interest in playing. The Back to the Future mod for GTA4, with working time travel. [gammasquad]

Don't have a go-cart, but have a ton of Mindstorm LEGO's? You should just go ahead and use those LEGOs to make your own working go-cart. Might as well, right? I mean... what else are you gonna do with 'em? [geekologie]

We all have random CDs laying around that we don't know what to do with. If you're feeling a big creative, and have a bunch of empty floor space, you could lay them all out, and make mosaics of rock icons. [nme]

I wonder how different Pokemon would have been if Tim Burton had created them. [geekologie]

Guess who wins ALL THE CAKE AWARDS. The person who made this life-size Darth Vader cake, that's who. [geekologie]

Gather 'round, boys and girls, it's time for science. COOL SPACE SCIENCE! [howtogeek]

Finding Nemo is going to be re-released in 3D, so in celebration, here's 23 things you may not have known about Finding Nemo. [buzzfeed]

Superhero teams can be awesome, but some can be downright lame. Here are the 9 worst superhero teams of all time. [dorkly]

This dude took a picture of himself everyday for 5 years. This is by far the best version of this concept I've seen. Keep an eye out for the wooden mannequin on the nightstand behind him, about three quarters of the way into the video. [buzzfeed]

Gillian Anderson has given us a renewed hope for a third installment of an X-Files movie, which will definitely be better than the second movie. Personally, I'm loving this news, because recently I started re-watching the entire X-Files series on Netflix. [blastr]

Fringe season 5 promo's. Need I say more? [blastr]

Nick’s Friday Round-Up: UMAD BRO? Edition

This is just soooo wrong, making fun of Canada like that. We all know Canadians have Mounties, not a CSI.

This week has been awesome, cuz it finally snowed, and not crappy snow, but the good kind you can make snowmen with. I made a tiny snowman in front of the movie theater last night. When I perfect my skills, I'll be making snowman works of art such as this. Welp... there's not much to talk about, so let's just jump into this thing.

We all know Whitney Houston passed away recently, and in Save Point fashion, I've found the best tribute ever made. Vegeta's tribute. [youtube]

What would you say if I told you that Link and Samus action figures will soon be released, with two versions of Samus, both with and without armor? What if I said, the Armored Samus action figure would be fully poseable, like seriously poseable for all your action-packed posing needs. *pew* *pew* *pew* [geekologie]

Speaking of "*pew* *pew* *pew*", what do you get when you shoot a large acrylic slab with a particle accelerator? Freakin' amazing fractal art, that's what! I'll take two, thanks. [geekosystem]

Normally you wouldn't think it dangerous to light a firecracker and drop it down a sewer manhole. Well guess what... Looks like this dude thought the same thing. Boy was he wrong. Hey, two little kids next to him, you might want to run away before you get crushed. What has this video taught us? Don't throw firecrackers in the Ninja Turtles home. Their booby traps will MESS YOU UP! [youtube]

TMNT 1 and 2 were awesome movies. TMNT 3, well... meh. Maybe we can rectify TMNT 3 with a TMNT live-action reboot? What do you think? Turns out Jonathan Liebesman, the guy who directed Battle L.A., is in negotiations to direct a new one. I LOVE me some live-action Ninja Turtles. If this goes though, he better not screw it up, that's all I'm sayin'. [gammasquad]

Another franchise in the works of becoming a live action movie is Twisted Metal, to be written and directed by Brian Taylor. This was one of my favorite games to play on the PlayStation. Over time it has developed an in depth and dark storyline for each of the characters. This has the potential to become a seriously amazing movie if Brian does it right. [geekosystem]

We have 3 years until 2015. That's the year when hoverboards are suppose to be made and already widely circulated. Mattel will soon be releasing Hoverboard replicas. Sadly it's only a replica of Marty's hoverboard, and as it clearly states on the packaging, it does not work on water. Looks like I'll have to wait a few years to get a Pitbull, because it's got POWAH!! [geekologie]

Whether you love or hate the fact that Star Wars is coming out in 3D, the fact is, that it's happening, and there's nothing you can do about it. George Lucas will keep finding ways to re-release the Star Wars movies, and he'll keep finding little things to change about it. Even if you hate this, is it really all that bad? Here's 4 things you need to accept about George Lucas. [cracked]

Are you only familiar with 3 or 4 Darths in the Star Wars universe? Educate yourself, with a list of ALL THE DARTHS!! in all of the Star Wars. (darth maul will always be my favorite darth. come at me bro) [ugo]

What if Star Wars actually took place within Feudal Japan? What would the characters look like? Let's find out, shall we? [howtogeek]

I'll finish up this Round-Up by destroying small bits of your childhood. Or at least show you things about it that you never realized. [buzzfeed]

GAME BONUS: Do you love Shadow of the Colossus? How about a simplified, yet still nearly as fun flash game with the same gameplay style? I present to you, Heir. [armorgames]

Nick’s Friday Round-Up: Something for Everyone Edition

Hmmm, yes. Quite right, quite right.

Welcome to the end of this week. I'm glad you've arrived. Please have a seat and enjoy the article. Feel free to have a refreshment and tasty beverage.

Speaking of refreshments, let's take a look at the difference between fast food as it's advertised, and the actual food you purchase. [geekologie]

Tired of having to eat around those annoying leaves on the top of a strawberry? Do you get frustrated trying to fold a fitted sheet? Want to amplify the volume of your iPod speaker? How about making heart-shaped hard-boiled eggs? Here are 25 clever ideas to make life easier. [thedailybuzz]

While we're on a DIY theme, how about a few more geek-style DIY projects. Create your own stylus for an iPad. An easy and efficient way to organize all your extra cables, and a dirt cheap way to extend the range of your routers wi-fi antennae. [howtogeek]

Space... the final frontier. TV and movies would never lie to us about space, right? When it comes to black holes, and yellow suns, and asteroid belts, we all have our facts straight. DON'T GO NEAR THEM! Or can we? Here are 6 myths everyone believes about space, thanks to movies. [cracked]

Here are a few legitimately newsworthy links:
No Blizzcon in 2012 [geekosystem]
If Fringe is canceled it could continue on through another medium [blastr]
Microsoft could be phasing out Microsoft Points by the end of 2012 [geekosystem]

Ever played Duck Hunt and just wanted to go at it with a machine gun? (sidenote: I wanted to shoot the living brains out of that laughing dog.) Well, sorry, you can't do that, BUT, you can watch a video of Bill "Mad Dog" Rizer from Contra do it, as well as a bunch of other video-game mash-ups. [youtube]

Who didn't play the original Command and Conquer? Anybody?  Anybody at all? Good. Well why not take yourself back to the 90s and play it again, but this time in your browser. A guy by the name of Aditya Ravi Shankar (don't ask me to pronounce it) took it upon himself to recode the entire C&C game as an html5 game. It's not finished, but you can still play it in it's current state. [howtogeek]

Two words. Dubstep Cat. Watch this video all the way through. I promise you will thank me for it. For those of you who need instant gratification, jump to the 34 second mark. [youtube] (I just watched it again... omg, I'm crying. hahaha)

If going to ThinkGeek.com isn't enough to fulfill your nerdy desires of awesomazing things, then check out this website. [needwant]

Want to be one of the original Power Rangers? HECK YEAH, YA DO! Well now you can, with these new Power Ranger hoodies! Now you can play Power Rangers outside with 37% less imagination. [geekologie]

Hyrule Kingdom. A place of wonder and excitement. A place where a little fairy follows you around, annoying the life out of you. If you can't get enough of this world in the actual video games, then why not role-play inside the Hyrule Kingdom in Minecraft? [gammasquad]

OMG, ADORBZ OF THE DAY: A baby reacts to hearing a new sound. [buzzfeed]

On a final note, you should all go to Lisa's Facebook, or tweet her @LisaFoiles, and tell her Thank you, and how much you appreciate her. There are a few different writers for this website, but without Lisa, none of us would be able to entertain you, throughout the week, here on Save Point. She personally pays for the hosting of this website herself, and cares about getting information out to all of you and making you all laugh, whether it's through us, or doing it herself. So go tell her thank you. Tell her how much you appreciate her. Tell her how much she entertained you as a kid, on All That. Tell her your favorite, All That, character of hers. Tell her how much you enjoyed watching her take one for the team in a chili bath. She did it all for you guys, to make you laugh. She's an amazing person and she deserves to know that all her work and effort is very much appreciated.

Nick’s Friday Round-Up: BLOW… YOUR… MIND… EDITION

That was your mind, and that's the little girl who doesn't give two flying flips about it. Nick's Round-Up for Friday the 13th has begun. I'm gonna start of small and build up to the mind explosion. Let us commence.

I'll begin with something food-related. I'm actually a pretty good cook. Especially when it comes to baking. I've never had any training, so for any of us in the same boat, we tend to believe some things about cooking that are actually lies, ALL LIES!! Here are 9 ridiculous cooking myths that most of you probably thought to be truths. HAHA, SUCKERS! Oh wait... I have to admit, believed a couple of them. Maybe now, Lisa will be able to cook something besides cereal... Probably not. [cracked]

Here's a bit of nostalgia. I remember growing up, waking up early every Saturday to watch cartoons. When Saturday-morning cartoons were GOOD. Not like the crap they show today. Here are some cartoons from the 1990's that we want back, and that today's generation could benefit from. Maybe they'll actually grow some brain cells back that they've lost from the complete stupidity of today's cartoons.[ugo]

I'm not one to ever have any kind of interest in makeup, but this particular line actually caught my eye. A new brand called Fotoshop by Adobé. Remove wrinkles with a swipe of the brush. Lose those 40 extra pounds and reshape your body without the mess of surgery. It also works for men, animals, landscapes, and pretty much whatever you want to change. Check it out. Fotoshop by Adobé [vimeo]

Google Maps has given us a few lulz now and then with things they've captured as they've intrusively driven down our streets, taking pictures. Some of the things they've caught, they've actually had to blur out. This instance, as of yesterday, was not blurred. Sadly I just now checked it, and they blurred it. GRRRR. However, you can still see it, even with the blur.  Just click on the blur. The blur is a woman walking. You won't be disappoint. [google maps] UPDATE: I found a website that saved the original pictures. Now you can fully enjoy the lulz! [flowerpoop]

As you all know, I love Skyrim. If you haven't figured that out by now, well then, apparently you don't read my Round-Ups very often, which is your own loss. Have you ever thought to yourself, "I wonder what Skyrim would be like in the present day?" Well, the good people at GroBroPros, on youtube, have created a video of that very thing. Here is SKYRIM 2012 [youtube]

You remember watching The Street Fighter series, right? Well our good pals at TheGameStation have created a new video spoof of the show Pawn Stars, creatively called, PWN Stars. If you don't laugh during this video, you've either never watched Pawn Stars, or never played any Legend of Zelda games. In either case, you're dead to me. [youtube]

I've been holding on to this link for the past few weeks. Since before Christmas. I believe now is the time to post it to you. A company in France has developed a special lighting display called CT Light Concept. Basically, it's able to project a 3D-style lighting display onto buildings, and thus opening new areas of awesome! Let the mind-blowing begin! [gammasquad]

If you've ever been to NYC or LA or Vancouver, or well, basically any big city with a good source of tourism, then you've seen a busker or two. a.k.a. street performer. I've seen people with some pretty amazing talents, but NOTHING quite like this. This guy absolutely blows me away. Apparently he didn't listen when his mom told him not to finger-paint on the walls, and it's a good thing he didn't. Whenever I finger-paint, it comes out looking like this. Whatever... I suck. Just watch the video. [youtube]

Here ya go. You can thank me later. [b3ta]

AND NOW... THE MOST EPIC THING YOU WILL EVER SEE, EVER! EVER! I tried to prepare you for this a couple days ago. I honestly don't think there's enough time to be able to train yourself to handle something this awesomazing. Maybe a mute monk up in the mountains of somewhere, with 50 years of training, but other than that, no. I am not responsible for anything that may happen to you during the viewing of this video. You can't say I didn't warn you. Lisa, if there's one thing you click on in all my Round-Ups, this would be the thing. [youtube]

Nick’s Friday Round-Up: Let’s Get Creative Edition

Poor Navi. She's only trying to help. =(

How are you my fellow gamers? This week has been pretty post-heavy on Save Point, which is a good thing. Now it's time for all the cool stuff we didn't tell you about. WOOHOO!

It's amazing how technology has become so intuitive that even a bearded dragon, on his basic instincts alone, can play a video game. Dare i say this would be the first bearded dragon to ever play a video game, and probably better than you. [geekosystem]

As a kid, I grew up with LEGO's. To be honest, I wasn't that great at building anything fancier than a house. I mean, you have the green, rectangular base, and you build on top of that, but you couldn't really build anything that wasn't some kind of boxy (not boxxy) looking vehicle, or anything outside the shape of a rectangle. Well guess what. One guy said, "Screw that!" and started making circles and wheels and all kinds of amazing shapes. [brickbending]

Speaking of awesome toys growing up. Let's take a trip down nostalgia lane, with the 90's kid's Christmas list. I can personally that say I owned 10 things on this list at one point. Except, where the heck are the slap bracelets? Oh yeah... they got banned from schools. -_- LAAAMMMEEE!! [buzzfeed]

Last week it snowed in my neck of the woods. The day after it snowed, I decided to try to make a snowman... with lack-luster results. And by "lack-luster results" I mean "I couldn't do it". To my defense, the snow was too fluffy and wouldn't stick together. NEXT TIME, SNOW.... NEXT TIME! I'm guessing the people who created these snowmen knew exactly what type of snow is needed to make these amazing works of nerd art. [gammasquad]

Awesome snowmen isn't where the Christmas creativity ends, not by a long shot. How about taking gingerbread and turning it into an AT-AT. Yeah that's right, or Serenity, the fastest ship in the verse. Take a look at 20 awesome sci-fi gingerbread creations. [blastr]

Remember back in elementary school, around Christmas time, your teacher would sit everybody down and have you all make snowflakes out of folded paper? Remember how yours always turned out looking like Fido got a hold of it? Wouldn't it be nice to go back in time and create super 1337 Star Wars snowflakes, pwning all the other 6 year-olds, and shoving your sick snowflake-making skills in their faces?  Yeah... that WOULD be nice. Sadly, without a TARDIS or a DeLorian this isn't possible, but you can take satisfaction in knowing that at least you can learn how to make such awesomeness now. Star Wars Snowflakes. [anthonyherreradesigns]

Darth Vader, using the force, to create a Christmas choir flash mob. Yes, this happened. My only complaint... needs moar Darth Vader ripping on the electric guitar. [buzzfeed]

Speaking of Darth Vader, why not combine two of the most evil sci-fi villains and mash them up into a bust (not that kind of bust, you pervs) of pure awesomazingness. I present to you, Skelvader! Or is it Darthetor? hmmm... [geekologie]

MIND BLOWN OF THE DAY: A team of guys at MIT have created an imaging system a.k.a. fancy camera, that records 1,000,000,000,000 (that's one trillion) frames per second. As a result it's able to record the speed of light. THAT'S RIGHT FOLKS, you can watch light as it moves toward an object to illuminate it. [gammasquad]

What Friday Round-Up would be complete without some Skyrim links? You knew it was coming. How about a Dragonborn helmet made out of bacon. [geekosystem]

A guy by the name of Benjamin S. has created a mod for the PC version of Skyrim, that let's you speak dragon shouts into your microphone, allowing you to cast them in the game. It has a bit of lag between saying it, and when it happens, but it's still quicker then going into your inventory and selecting different shouts. [geekologie]

To finish up, I'll leave you with a cockatiel whistling the Mario theme song. [geekologie] Ok, cockatiel, now do the theme from Zelda...
