Nick’s Friday Round-Up

Once again, I ran across a video that absolutely deserves to be spotlighted in this post, so here it is. Possibly the best video ever to grace the stage of the internet.

Want to really screw with peoples minds? Decorate your house with glitch furniture. Make your house look like a dying computer screen. [io9]

If you need an amazing graphic of war-torn Syria, go ahead and grab a picture from Assassin's Creed. This news station did. [geekosystem]

Who's fingers are THAT small to make a half-inch papercraft Millennium Falcon. [blastr]

Let's scale things up a bit with a life size papercraft Zelda. [geekologie]

If you haven't heard, which I don't know how you couldn't have, there's a kickstarter to raise $2,000,000 to help make a Veronica Mars movie. Within the first 4 hours, it had already received 1 million, which is just one of at least 3 records it broke for kickstarter. As of me writing this, it's already surpassed that, by earning $3.3 million. Let me say that VM is my second favorite shows ever, and this pleases me greatly. [wired]

The previous wired article raised many questions, such as if people were duped into actually giving money toward the project. Here is a conversation by some IGN editors to help answer these questions. [youtube]

With the success of the Veronica Mars movie kickstarter, there's even a possibly of another one of my top favorite shows ever to have a movie. Chuck! [blastr]

Now why would you want to manually switch songs, when your headphones can do it for you by reading your mind based on your mood. [geekologie]

Minecraft, in my opinion, is an amazing game, and now it's even being used as an educational tool, possibly the ultimate educational tool. [geekosystem]

As it turns out, elderly people who play video games tend to be happier and more active. [geekosystem]

There are games that have amazing launches, earning buttloads of money, and then there are some that nearly flop, however, a bad launch doesn't necessarily mean the game will fail. Here are the 9 worst videogame launches of all time. [dorkly]

Just because there's been a lack of news about a new sequel to Bill and Ted, doesn't mean the movie has been delayed. Movies just take time. [blastr]

Nick’s Friday Round-Up

Some people have no idea how to decorate their living room. Well this guy did. He figured, "Why not turn it into a huge diorama of the battle of Hoth." "Honey! Do we have any cardboard?!?" [geekologie]

"Keep it, I got a Pit Bull now!" Well... for $13,000. Griff's original hoverboard prop from the movie is for sale on ebay. [geekologie]

So ya know how there's a kickstarter to fund an actual Death Star? Well now there's a kickstarter to fund an Xwing squadron to combat the Death Star. Folks, you can't make this stuff up. [geekosystem]

More diorama fun! A LEGO diorama of a bunch of scenes from Star Wars. Don't you wish you could shrink down and just walk through it at scale size? [blastr]

I don't know how you all feel about 3D, but for any Doctor Who fans, it looks as if the 50th Anniversary special will be in 3D. So grab those glasses and prepare yourselves. [blastr]

The original DeLorean from BTTF has been fully restored to it's amazing, time traveling, glory. I, for one, am very happy about this. [geekologie]

The Ghostbusters headquarters built out of LEGOs. How do they fit all those ghosts inside a containment unit THAT small? [gammasquad]

Here's a look at the cast of the original Star Trek series, if they were created by Pixar. [blastr]

Remember those groundbreaking graphics when Doom first came out? Well take a look at what it would look like if it was created with today's graphic technology. [geekologie]

Moar LEGO stuffs! It looks as if LEGO will officially be releasing an X-Wing Starfighter. [geekosystem]

Who's your favorite comic book villain? For me, it's the Joker, of course. I'm also a pretty big fan of Carnage. Here's a list of the top 25 comic book villains of all time. [dorkly]

If you've been itching to become a Jedi master, but lack the light saber fighting skills, well now you can take a class to learn how to fight with those pretty sabers of light. (rhyming was unintentional, but welcomed) [blastr]

Back in the day everybody wanted to get in on the videogame craze, including all kinds of food companies. Most were lame, but a few of them stood out and shined. Here are some actual GOOD video games that were based on junk food. [gammasquad]

It was only a matter of time before somebody made a real hot air balloon that looked like the one from "Up", house included. [geekologie]

The Final Fantasy series got a little classy with a symphony dedicated to it. [geekosystem]

With the progression of video games, are "boss fights" relevant anymore? [gammasquad]

Well it looks as if most of Gamestop's, and other second-hand video game selling companies will soon see their businesses slow to a crawl. The Next-gen Xbox games will only work for it's original owner. I have a feeling that not a lot of people are going to be happy about this. Myself included. [geekosystem]

Kickstarter, you so crazy. Since the government has official declined our requests to build a real Death Star, Kickstarter has taken it upon themselves to fund it. [geekosystem]

In amazeballs news, Half Life and Portal are connected with J.J. Abrams, and movies are in the works. [blastr]

The most important emergency practice drills you can perform in a zoo are for when the zebra escapes. Zebra escapes are SRS BSNS! Now let's throw someone in a zebra costume and run this drill! [geekosystem]

With Disney owning Star Wars, awesome things are happening, such as spinoff movies. Yes please! [blastr]

What is it with the world, all the sudden, developing a butt-ton of freakishly scary robots? We got the robot that can run like a cheetah, a robot that can make it's way over crazy rough terrain, the humanish shaped robot that can traverse it's way across crazy obstacles, and now we have a knife-wielding robot that can cut a cucumber paper thin, not to mention, stab you in the neck when you're not looking... or even if you are looking. [geekologie]

We can add to that robot takeover with the most advanced prosthetic arm to date. Seriously, folks, there's no way Skynet isn't here making these things. [geekologie]

One of the unseen, but definitely not unheard characters in video games are the radio hosts. You'll be trotting along, leveling up, happily listening to that radio station that you somehow have programmed into a piece of something connected to you. It comes out of nowhere people, and it's kinda creepy. ANYWAY, here are the top 10 greatest radio hosts in videogame history. [dorkly]

This is not one of the coolest rides you can have, but it's better than nothing, especially all pimped out in an R2-D2 theme. [geekologie]

And what an awesome segue that was into my next topic. Harrison Ford is totally open to coming back as Han Solo for the new Star Wars movie. [gammasquad]

So is Carrie Fisher! [blastr]

Are you tired of the daunting task of separating your skittles into different colors, because, well, you just despise those green ones? Well daunt no more! You can have your very own, personal, automatic skittle sorter. [geekologie]

Speaking of candy, a lot of you love gummi stuff. Bears, worms, robots, the list goes on, but how about a gummi python. YEP, you read that right, a ginormous snake made of gummi stuffs. [geekologie]

What are you going to store that gummi snake in? Cuz you know there's no way you're eating that in one sitting. Well how about a $45,000 refrigerator? All I'm saying is it better, as heck, better make me breakfast and serve it to me in bed. [geekologie]

Who wants some super adorbz of the day, with a hefty dose of "awesome" thrown in? YOU ALL DO! I present to you, Dragon Baby! [gammasquad]

One thing we haven't heard about in a while is Elder Scrolls Online. We got a tiny teaser trailer a while ago, but that's about it. However, now they decide to just throw a hefty update into our laps and expect us to absorb it all. OK, I THINK I WILL! [gammasquad]

Also, for good measure, let's throw in this link. Obsidian's Project Eternity is now, officially, the most funded game on Kickstarter. [geekosystem]

Do you all remember that Assassin's Creed Parkour video I showed you a few weeks back? Well they're at it again, Assassin's Creed III style. AWWW YEAH! [youtube]

So this guy re-paints realistic faces on semi to very crappily made movie character dolls/figurines/action figures, whatever you want to call them, and they are surprisingly good. Like... really surprisingly good. [geekologie]

Zombie movies come out of the woodwork like a hefty dose of termites, but once in a while, a gem will appear. A zombie movie like no other. A comedy zombie romance. That's right, you read correctly. A zombie falls in love with a human. Stop being so jaded and cynical and just freakin' watch the trailer. [gammasquad]

Nick’s Friday Round-Up: What If Edition. Also, Creepy Bunnies.

A few weeks back we posted about Kickstarter funding Double Fine Adventure, with amazing results. Here are 6 Indie video games (including Double Fine Adventure) that Kickstarter made possible. [cracked]

So what's with lists being "top 6"? Whatever happened to top 10? Seriously, it's just 4 more. Stop being so lazy. ANYWAY! Here are the 6 worst endings in video game history, according to Dorkly. And no, Mass Effect 3 isn't in the list. [dorkly]

Hey Kel, why don't you grab a laser, some firecrackers, and a balloon, and meet me in the garage. COME ON, SPICY! Bu-but Kenan... Kenan.. KENAN! AWWW here it goes. [geekologie]

Let's play a little game of "What If".

What if Daleks put their world-destroying ways on hold, and created a relaxation tape? [youtube]

What if Doctor Who regenerated into a girl? There may be some credibility to an April Fools joke/rumor. [blastr]

What if they made a Doctor Who RPG in the 90s. [collegehumor]

What if Angry Birds were an 80s PC game. [youtube]

What if Alfred Hitchcock movies were Nintendo game box-art? [geekologie]

What if video games were actually children's books? [dorkly]

What if Yoda spoke normally? [vimeo]

What if you still had all the toys from your childhood, and kept them in good condition? How much would they be worth? [buzzfeed]

What if Scorpian, from Mortal Kombat, were to replace Mario in Super Mario Bros? [howtogeek]

What if a Rainbow Pegacorn were turned into an amazingly detailed cake? [geekologie]

As we all know, Easter is this Sunday, and this post wouldn't be complete without a couple Easter related links.

Tired of the same old Easter-egg hunt every year? Why not have an Easter-egg hunt in the dark, with glowing eggs? Here's a super simple way to make glow-in-the-dark eggs. [howtogeek]

Where my Peeps at?!? Well, this being Easter, they're everywhere. So much so that they've had some spare time to recreate some Sci-Fi dioramas. [blastr]

And finally, let's take a look at some Easter eggs gone geek. [dorkly]

The League of S.T.E.A.M. is Awesome and Full of Win. (And Needs Our Help!)

I have a new obsession, and it's not Cookie Crisp Milkshakes this time: It's The League of S.T.E.A.M. This, friends, is NOT just another dumb web show - it is a well-edited, perfectly-paced, stylized series of adventures with fantastic costumes, ingenious props/inventions, and great acting. Not to mention I'm pals with Nick "Crackitus Potts" and most of the other cast members, and they are absolute gentlemen.

To put it simply, these guys are "Steampunk Ghostbusters" from the Victorian era:

"Our talented group of inventors and actors take the audience back to a time of scientific adventure; a common ground between the paranormal and the Pythagorean."

We're talking Zombies, Vampires, Trolls, Leprechauns, and, obviously, Ghost Monkeys.

If there's one thing this whole debacle with The Escapist has proven, it's that good web shows put on by good people deserve our support. Please, guys! Help The League of S.T.E.A.M. get a second season. I'm dying to be involved with this show in any way I can, so let's get them plenty of dollars to expand their already imaginative universe.
