Nick’s Friday Round-Up: Quick Fix Edition #2

I've been playing Minecraft since Alpha 1.2.2, and in that time I've seen some amazing things. Entire worlds recreated, amazing adventure maps, and some mind-blowing contraptions. This, however, has got to be one of the most amazing things I've seen so far. Youtube user nuropsych1 made a 5 minute long Beetlejuice roller coaster (minecart track). And what makes this even more impressive, is he did it in XBOX Minecraft. I, personally, can't see how people can play Minecraft with a controller, but apparently it's not that difficult after seeing this creation.

The basic concept for this roller coaster comes from the intro to the Beetlejuice cartoon from the 80s/90s, while also throwing in a lot of stuff from the actual movie. What's also impressive is that he did this in one take, without jerking the view, and always seeming to be looking in the right spot at the exact right time.

I am extremely impressed with this build, and nuropsych1 has all the props I can give. Mad ones at that, like, seriously angry ones. Great job, bro.

If that wasn't enough for you, then here's a couple more links to click...

A LEGO machine that can fold and launch paper airplaines [geekologie]

3D printed GLaDOS ceiling lamp [instructables]

Nick’s Friday Round-Up: Party Spock is in the Round-Up Tonight Edition

I'm going to start by posting this. Why? Because, Japan. Because, I can, Because lulz. Because... I don't even know. [youtube]

I really can't top that, which makes me wonder why I didn't end with it instead... Oh well.

Ever wanted to be a superhero? Well, guess what. That's never gonna happen, but I have the next best thing. You can get your head on a superhero action figure. Close enough, right? [geekologie]

Speaking of things that will never happen; here are 10 nerd dreams that will never come true. [dorkly]

You know all those old video games sitting on your shelf that you never play anymore? Society would have you believe that you should trade them in to Gamestop. Well, guess what. There are more options now than just Gamestop. Let's find out who gives you the best value for your old games. [gammasquad]

I've played Halo and Halo 2, and a tiny bit of Halo 3. I suck at FPS's, so after Halo 2, I was pretty much spent. However, for those of you still hardcore into the Halo franchise, it's officially been announced when Halo 4 will be released. [geekosystem]

Now Metroid, on the other hand, is a game franchise I can get behind. For those of you into the whole paper folding world, I present to you a 7 foot tall, papercraft Samus. [geekologie]

Papercraft and Metroid aren't your thing? Ok then, let's go a little more oldschool with Frogger. Not just regular Frogger, no no. 5th Avenue Frogger. You can play Frogger in real-time from 5th Ave. in NYC, against actual NYC traffic. [gizmodo]

Who doesn't enjoy a fun game of mini-golf? What about a video game inspired mini-golf course, including Minecraft and Portal? [geekologie]

Last week we saw a bunch of new trailers from CAPCOM. This week I have a bunch of new trailers from NAMCO BANDAI, including Dragon Ball Z for Kinect. This might be the game that convinces me to get the Kinect. Seriously, I'd KAMEHAMEHA the crap out of that game. [gammasquad]

This is NOT actual camera footage, this is a trailer for the CryENGINE 3.4 to be used with the upcoming Crysis game. inb4 your video card can't handle it, and your stuck playing on the lowest graphic settings causing the game to look nothing like it does in the trailer. [geekologie]

Good ol' Freddie25 on Youtube has put together an awesomazing video game medley. See if you can guess all the songs. There's a cheat sheet in the video description. [youtube]

Earlier the rumor was thrown around that the next Doctor Who could actually be a girl. Well I have some more speculation to throw into the pot of Who. There's also the possibility that it could be Capt. Jack. "HOW WOULD THAT HAPPEN?", you ask? Not sure, but it's still a possibility. [blastr]

Here's a very good replica of a proton pack from Ghostbusters, and it's ONLY $850.00 [geekologie]

Speaking of Ghostbusters, there's a possibility of Bill Murray being in Ghostbusters 3. Who knows... It's been a bunch of back and forth. I guess only time will tell. [blastr]

With the fate of Fringe still up in the air, they've actually created 2 season finale's. Hopefully it'll just be a season finale and not a series finale. [blastr]

The snozzberries taste like snozzberries, the jaffa cakes taste like jaffa cakes! Apparently some scientific people took a page from Willy Wonka and actually created IRL lickable wallpaper. I'm a bit hesitant with how sanitary this is. [geekologie]

Here's a once-in-a-lifetime picture of 8 bolts of lightning hitting the San Francisco Bay bridge. [dailymail]

Nick’s Friday Round-Up: UMAD BRO? Edition

This is just soooo wrong, making fun of Canada like that. We all know Canadians have Mounties, not a CSI.

This week has been awesome, cuz it finally snowed, and not crappy snow, but the good kind you can make snowmen with. I made a tiny snowman in front of the movie theater last night. When I perfect my skills, I'll be making snowman works of art such as this. Welp... there's not much to talk about, so let's just jump into this thing.

We all know Whitney Houston passed away recently, and in Save Point fashion, I've found the best tribute ever made. Vegeta's tribute. [youtube]

What would you say if I told you that Link and Samus action figures will soon be released, with two versions of Samus, both with and without armor? What if I said, the Armored Samus action figure would be fully poseable, like seriously poseable for all your action-packed posing needs. *pew* *pew* *pew* [geekologie]

Speaking of "*pew* *pew* *pew*", what do you get when you shoot a large acrylic slab with a particle accelerator? Freakin' amazing fractal art, that's what! I'll take two, thanks. [geekosystem]

Normally you wouldn't think it dangerous to light a firecracker and drop it down a sewer manhole. Well guess what... Looks like this dude thought the same thing. Boy was he wrong. Hey, two little kids next to him, you might want to run away before you get crushed. What has this video taught us? Don't throw firecrackers in the Ninja Turtles home. Their booby traps will MESS YOU UP! [youtube]

TMNT 1 and 2 were awesome movies. TMNT 3, well... meh. Maybe we can rectify TMNT 3 with a TMNT live-action reboot? What do you think? Turns out Jonathan Liebesman, the guy who directed Battle L.A., is in negotiations to direct a new one. I LOVE me some live-action Ninja Turtles. If this goes though, he better not screw it up, that's all I'm sayin'. [gammasquad]

Another franchise in the works of becoming a live action movie is Twisted Metal, to be written and directed by Brian Taylor. This was one of my favorite games to play on the PlayStation. Over time it has developed an in depth and dark storyline for each of the characters. This has the potential to become a seriously amazing movie if Brian does it right. [geekosystem]

We have 3 years until 2015. That's the year when hoverboards are suppose to be made and already widely circulated. Mattel will soon be releasing Hoverboard replicas. Sadly it's only a replica of Marty's hoverboard, and as it clearly states on the packaging, it does not work on water. Looks like I'll have to wait a few years to get a Pitbull, because it's got POWAH!! [geekologie]

Whether you love or hate the fact that Star Wars is coming out in 3D, the fact is, that it's happening, and there's nothing you can do about it. George Lucas will keep finding ways to re-release the Star Wars movies, and he'll keep finding little things to change about it. Even if you hate this, is it really all that bad? Here's 4 things you need to accept about George Lucas. [cracked]

Are you only familiar with 3 or 4 Darths in the Star Wars universe? Educate yourself, with a list of ALL THE DARTHS!! in all of the Star Wars. (darth maul will always be my favorite darth. come at me bro) [ugo]

What if Star Wars actually took place within Feudal Japan? What would the characters look like? Let's find out, shall we? [howtogeek]

I'll finish up this Round-Up by destroying small bits of your childhood. Or at least show you things about it that you never realized. [buzzfeed]

GAME BONUS: Do you love Shadow of the Colossus? How about a simplified, yet still nearly as fun flash game with the same gameplay style? I present to you, Heir. [armorgames]

Nick’s Friday Round-Up: Surprise Nick-Rage at the End Edition

He's just saiyan...

Well hello there Save Point-ers. inb4pics of everybody pointing at me. My weeks, since Christmas, have been full of playing and beating the main story lines of both Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. I have to say that they are definitely, now, some of my top favorite games. If you haven't played them yet, then I thus command thee to go play them now. You won't be disappoint. While playing these games, I have gained a unhealthy sort of crush on Harley Quinn. OH, COME ON... You know there's that one video game character who, if they were real, you'd totally date them. Albeit Harley Quinn is a mad, killing psychopath, I think I could totally get past that. ANYWAY, let's get to the Round-Up.

We'll start off with one of everybody's favorite topics over the past few years. Zombie Apocalypse weaponry. This guy has created one of the most efficiently deadly, 3-in-1 zombie apocalypse weapons you'll ever use, and surprisingly, it's not a gun. [geekologie]

Food. We all love it. We can't live without it, but apparently there are some foods that we, here in America, do live without. Some of them are baffling as to WHY we don't have them here in the great US of A. Here are some fast food flavors you won't find in the US. [neatorama]

So this is a thing that's happening.... IN EUROPE. (are you even the least bit surprised?) As a promotion for the release of Star Wars Episode 1 in 3D, a European fast food chain is selling Star Wars themed hamburgers. This doesn't seem like a bad idea, but wait until you see the Darth Vader burger... Uhhhhh, I think I'll pass. ALSO, you spelled "Vader" wrong. [geekologie]

INDIANA JONES! Who doesn't love Indiana Jones? Apparently Harrison Ford didn't know if he liked it or not. Yes, that's right, Harrison Ford never watched the trilogy until just recently. Why don't we all sit down and watch him watch it for the first time. Well, at least clips of him watching it. [buzzfeed]

While we're talking about watching movies of your young self. Two brothers sit down and watch old home movies of themselves, while giving DVD-movie-style commentary. This, my friends, is comic genius. [geekosystem]

What if old ATARI games were given realistic titles based on their box-art? Oh the magic of Photoshop Internet. [mightygodking]

I may not be the best Photoshop Paint Shop Pro editor around, but I'm pretty sure I'd be able to notice major flubs such as these, ESPECIALLY if they are going to be viewed by the mass public. The top 10 Photoshop disasters of 2011 [psdisasters]

Over the years we've seen some grand masterpieces. Paintings, cathedrals, statues, symphonies, etc... What you may not know is some of our greatest works of art have hidden Easter Eggs within them. Some of them may surprise you. Here are 7 bizarre Easter Eggs hidden within great works of art. Numbers 3 and 1 are my favorites. [cracked]

I have no segue into this one, so I'll just throw it at you. WE ALL LOVE BUBBLE WRAP! If you say you don't, you are a liar. End of story. The joys of popping each little bubble, brings a small bit of joy and warmth to our hearts. Why not have that joy every single day for an entire year? Well now you can, with a bubble wrap calendar. Pop your way to a better tomorrow. [geekosystem]

Video games now-a-days are more than just a single objective. Win the game. Get from the beginning to the end. No, games now-a-days have choices. You don't HAVE to save the princess. If you want, you can throw her into the pit of lava, while "MUAHAHAHA'ing" the entire time. I have first-hand experience, that even though the evil way may be more appealing, I find it better to take the good route. Lisa is a prime example of how being an evil, mass-murdering hero villain can come back to bite you in the butt. i.e. when she killed everyone in Fable 3 and had to come into my world of Albion to buy potions, because she didn't have anybody in her world to run the shops. Me, being the nice guy I am, allowed her to join my game to help her out, only to have her murder everyone in the city of Aurora, and continuing on to take me into Reaver's Wheel of Misfortune room and glitching my game to where I cannot escape the room. MY GAME IS BROKEN BECAUSE OF HER. Hours of game play, ruined! There is a small chance I can fix it, but I'd need her help... But Lisa is evil. I refer you to her post she made a couple weeks ago about me, Stuart and Dan. If you read what she said about me, you will get an idea of how evil she really is, in this particular instance.
Wow, sorry about that, I kinda went off there for a minute, although there was a reason for saying all that. Here are the 11 most evil choices in video games. [ugo]
