Nick’s Friday Round-Up

What happens when you give somebody 150,000 LEGOs? A HUGE MESS! Oh wait... that's if you give them to me. If you give them to some much more creative people, you get a recreation of the Battle of Helm's Deep. [gammasquad]

Ok, what if you give someone a bunch of multi-colored twistie-ties? Once again, if you give them to me, all you're gonna get is a bunch of spiral shapes because I wrapped them around my fingers. If you give them to someone else, you get twistie-tie sculptures of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. [geekologie]

As of about a week ago I FINALLY beat Dead Space. Yes, the very first one. So I find this fitting that someone built an IRL burning Dead Space plasma cutter. [geekologie]

Hooray for Microsoft making a smart move! The next-gen XBOX will NOT require you to always be connected in order to play singleplayer games. [geekosystem]

MORE HOMEMADE STUFF!! Someone made an 80,000 volt Thor's Hammer. [geekologie]

If you've never played Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem on Gamecube, I HIGHLY recommend you go play it. With that said, there's plans to make a "sequal"/"successor" game for it. A lot of people don't want this to happen for one reason or another, but I, for one, welcome it. [gamesradar]

For those who were looking forward to Jurassic Park 4, especially since the 3D release of the original, then I'm sorry to let the wind out of your sails, but Jurassic Park 4 has been put on hold. [gammasquad]

Time travel seems like it would be an amazing experience if it were possible. Just look at all the adventures from Doctor Who and Marty McFly. Most people don't consider the annoyances and frustrations that time travel might actually cause. [blastr]

In really stupid news, Disney has hired EA to create Star Wars games. Seriously, Disney? Seriously? [gammasquad]

So you think you're a true Star Wars nerd? Test your knowledge with these 7 terms from Star Wars that don't mean what you think they  mean. [dorkly]

When it comes to movies in 3D, you either like it or hate it, but there are some video game franchises out there that could really benefit from a 3D CGI movie release. [gammasquad]

Nick’s Friday Round-Up: Quick Fix Edition #2

I've been playing Minecraft since Alpha 1.2.2, and in that time I've seen some amazing things. Entire worlds recreated, amazing adventure maps, and some mind-blowing contraptions. This, however, has got to be one of the most amazing things I've seen so far. Youtube user nuropsych1 made a 5 minute long Beetlejuice roller coaster (minecart track). And what makes this even more impressive, is he did it in XBOX Minecraft. I, personally, can't see how people can play Minecraft with a controller, but apparently it's not that difficult after seeing this creation.

The basic concept for this roller coaster comes from the intro to the Beetlejuice cartoon from the 80s/90s, while also throwing in a lot of stuff from the actual movie. What's also impressive is that he did this in one take, without jerking the view, and always seeming to be looking in the right spot at the exact right time.

I am extremely impressed with this build, and nuropsych1 has all the props I can give. Mad ones at that, like, seriously angry ones. Great job, bro.

If that wasn't enough for you, then here's a couple more links to click...

"Keep it, I got a Pit Bull now!" Well... for $13,000. Griff's original hoverboard prop from the movie is for sale on ebay. [geekologie]

Nick’s Friday Round-Up: UMAD BRO? Edition

This is just soooo wrong, making fun of Canada like that. We all know Canadians have Mounties, not a CSI.

This week has been awesome, cuz it finally snowed, and not crappy snow, but the good kind you can make snowmen with. I made a tiny snowman in front of the movie theater last night. When I perfect my skills, I'll be making snowman works of art such as this. Welp... there's not much to talk about, so let's just jump into this thing.

We all know Whitney Houston passed away recently, and in Save Point fashion, I've found the best tribute ever made. Vegeta's tribute. [youtube]

What would you say if I told you that Link and Samus action figures will soon be released, with two versions of Samus, both with and without armor? What if I said, the Armored Samus action figure would be fully poseable, like seriously poseable for all your action-packed posing needs. *pew* *pew* *pew* [geekologie]

Speaking of "*pew* *pew* *pew*", what do you get when you shoot a large acrylic slab with a particle accelerator? Freakin' amazing fractal art, that's what! I'll take two, thanks. [geekosystem]

Normally you wouldn't think it dangerous to light a firecracker and drop it down a sewer manhole. Well guess what... Looks like this dude thought the same thing. Boy was he wrong. Hey, two little kids next to him, you might want to run away before you get crushed. What has this video taught us? Don't throw firecrackers in the Ninja Turtles home. Their booby traps will MESS YOU UP! [youtube]

TMNT 1 and 2 were awesome movies. TMNT 3, well... meh. Maybe we can rectify TMNT 3 with a TMNT live-action reboot? What do you think? Turns out Jonathan Liebesman, the guy who directed Battle L.A., is in negotiations to direct a new one. I LOVE me some live-action Ninja Turtles. If this goes though, he better not screw it up, that's all I'm sayin'. [gammasquad]

Another franchise in the works of becoming a live action movie is Twisted Metal, to be written and directed by Brian Taylor. This was one of my favorite games to play on the PlayStation. Over time it has developed an in depth and dark storyline for each of the characters. This has the potential to become a seriously amazing movie if Brian does it right. [geekosystem]

We have 3 years until 2015. That's the year when hoverboards are suppose to be made and already widely circulated. Mattel will soon be releasing Hoverboard replicas. Sadly it's only a replica of Marty's hoverboard, and as it clearly states on the packaging, it does not work on water. Looks like I'll have to wait a few years to get a Pitbull, because it's got POWAH!! [geekologie]

Whether you love or hate the fact that Star Wars is coming out in 3D, the fact is, that it's happening, and there's nothing you can do about it. George Lucas will keep finding ways to re-release the Star Wars movies, and he'll keep finding little things to change about it. Even if you hate this, is it really all that bad? Here's 4 things you need to accept about George Lucas. [cracked]

Are you only familiar with 3 or 4 Darths in the Star Wars universe? Educate yourself, with a list of ALL THE DARTHS!! in all of the Star Wars. (darth maul will always be my favorite darth. come at me bro) [ugo]

What if Star Wars actually took place within Feudal Japan? What would the characters look like? Let's find out, shall we? [howtogeek]

I'll finish up this Round-Up by destroying small bits of your childhood. Or at least show you things about it that you never realized. [buzzfeed]

GAME BONUS: Do you love Shadow of the Colossus? How about a simplified, yet still nearly as fun flash game with the same gameplay style? I present to you, Heir. [armorgames]

Kinda Cool? I Guess?: Super Mario Bros. Player Select Screen Reimagined

Eh? Eh? Is this cool? What do we think? It's pretty sweet, I just wish there was more to it. THAT'S RIGHT I'm a greedy Internet-er who has nothing better to do than demand awesome things from other people that I will enjoy for 5 minutes and then go on with my day. SO SUE ME. Actually, don't sue me. I'd like to keep my cat.

Nick’s Friday Round-Up: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles Edition

Picture presented without comment.

It's Friday! And you know what that means? It means you have 6 more days before you can stuff your face while watching football, after enjoying a mega-parade on TV. There's a rumbly in my tumbly now.

Ya know how when you're on the road, everyone going faster than you is an idiot, and everyone going slower than you is a moron? Have you ever wanted to let them know that, but all you had was a car horn. Well want no more! Learn how to turn your rear windshield into an LED display. [geekosystem]

You're driving along rainbow road and you just barely miss that extremely dangerous banana peel that somebody nonchalantly flung into the street. As you take half a second to breath after that near miss, you get slammed in back by a red turtle shell, causing you to wildly spin out of control. If this is your dream, then it's your lucky day, cuz it's dream come true! The guys at West Coast Customs built, not one, but TWO karts from Mario Kart. [geekologie]

Keeping in theme with Mario. PETA is on the prowl again. Apparently the new Super Mario 3D Land game has caught PETA's interest in the Mario franchise. Their complaint: Mario promotes that it's okay to wear fur. (excuse me while I place a -_- face here.) I'll post a few links here, just so you can see how ridiculous this is. [mashable] [geekologie] BONUS VIDEO: Black Nerd Comedy [youtube]

Video games now-a-days just love to offer you some extra DLC a little while after the game is released. In my opinion, this is actually a great thing, offering you more game, for a moderate price, usually. And then there are the games, that are just trying to squeeze every little bit of money they can out of you, on the basis that 'people are stupid'. You really want me to pay money to be able to ride a train in a train simulator game, I already bought? SRSLY? Here are the 10 Most Insulting Things Video Games Charged Money For. [cracked]

Tesla coils on your head and Mortal Kombat, what could go wrong? NOTHING, ONLY AWESOME CAN COME FROM THIS! [geekosystem]

Back in the day, doing 'the robot' was cool. As time went on, well.... not so much. However, a couple guys who call themselves the Robotboys, have brought it back, and more awesomazing  than ever. God bless you, dubstep. It gets good at 1:55, it gets awesomazing at 2:22. [buzzfeed]

ZOMG ADORBZ OF THE DAY: A cute little pug is dressed up as a Wampa, Wampug. [geekologie]

For those of you who just don't have any good games to play, because I know this month has been super lacking on awesome video game releases, and you seriously have not-a-game to keep you occupied, I present to you, Potty Racers! Have you ever wanted to fly inside a porta-potty, earning money for upgrades, tricks, and scrap to turn your porta-potty into an airplane? Do you love the fresh smell of steaming hot dung? Then head out on this poo-centric adventure. [addictinggames]

NGP Will Support 3D… Maybe

The NGP, or PSP2 if you want to be totally original, does have the potential to be amazing. It boasts dual analog sticks, near HD visuals, and touch screens allowing for top and bottom stroking. PERV! It also will do 3D.

No, it won't.

Okay, okay! So Sony said 3D just wouldn't quite work with the NGP amongst all it's other potential awesomeness. But here is the deal...

I heard today from a little bird who works for Sony that the NGP will support 3D visuals. It was mentioned alongside the PS3's capability, and Sony's push to make 3D the next dimension in gaming (get it?!) so it could have just been a slip of the tongue. However, I have to believe that the experts at Sony would not make mistakes that big.

Achoo80710A06!

I think 3D is cool and all, but here's where it gets messy: The PS3 for example, can do 3D as long as you have a 3D TV. Said 3D TV set requires 3D glasses, which you can find from a handful of manufacturers. When it comes to Sony 3DTVs, however, you have to use Sony 3D glasses, which do help you look as cool as this guy, this boy, and this lady. You don't get a choice. So your options come in the form of which 3D TV maker you choose to buy from. The NGP is a Sony handheld. No one else makes it. That means if the NGP does support 3D, you will have to buy Sony's 3D glasses no matter what. Kind of lame. That's like telling me if I decide to drop trow at my local Target, I have to use UP & UP brand toilet paper to wipe my ass. I should be able to use whatever I want, like the fluffy Charmin I stole, those crusty paper towels, or my hand. Which I use all the time!

High fives all around!
