Stu’s Web Wednesday: Going Nowhere

This one will be quick because I've been everywhere ever. Or just so amazingly busy that my life is falling apart around me. One of those is true. This week's Web Wednesday comes from suggestion by Not F'n Cute's FN Pryde. Usually I'm not persuaded by stuff, but if you knew Pryde the way I know Pryde, you'd know she's very persuasive. So I jumped in not knowing what I'd find. I knew they were backed my Machinima, so there had to be something there. Then I pulled up the most recenent clip and was agape:

Having just downloaded the HD version of Jet Set Radio on my PS3 last week (PS+ early access...awwww yeah), it was just relevant enough to get a shock while still being nostalgic enough to hit that itch too. It was also too perfect. For an online show, the special effects and editing is done magnificently well. So I pushed on to the actual show, then saw something reletively familiar, specifically from my earlier childhood:

Stu’s Web Wednesday: Space Guys in Space

So I've been kind of quiet recently. Lots in my mind, lots going on, and frankly, outside of Fistful of Rupees, I didn't have a lot of shows that I haven't already covered that have popped new into my viewing habits. So I looked at what I watched before to see if there's anything I hadn't covered. And lo and behold, I found something! I feel silly for missing this all together too. How about a show about Space? I already can feel the Space Core jokes coming...

Stu’s Web Wednesday: Yesterday Tonight

Today's Web Wednesday is one of those where I can't believe it didn't happen earlier. It may have in terms of podcasts, but not in this format. And yes, it's some shameless promotion on my part that you'll notice as well but you've come to expect that from me at this point, I'm sure. Something that you don't find very often on the net are talk shows. There are discussion format shows, primarally stuff like TWiT or Rev3, where it's host driven news and interview format, but the actual "talk show" format is pretty vacant. So what would happen if a talk show of the Carson era was solely on the Pop Culture of the 90s and that show was hosted by Marty McFly? That show would be Yesterday Tonight.

Now I know when I said "Marty McFly", you were expecting Michael J. Fox. But it's not. It's actually A.J. Locascio, the spot on, jaw gape enduing voice of Marty McFly in the Telltale Games' Back to the Future episodic adventure game. Oh yeah and there's some woman who happened to found this site called Lisa Foiles in it too. Not that I'm biased towards her or anything. Now this is only a pilot, a proof of concept if you will, but I think it should get picked up, for lack of a better term. If there was an interview with Kirk Fogg or Marc Summers or Rob Paulsen or any number of 90s personalities, I'd be totally down. So everyone, if you're interested, please comment on the video (which seems to be the best course of action I can find) and show your support. There's only so much I can say about a pilot beyond "I dig it". So can you dig it? Can you dig it? Can. You. dig it?

Stu’s Web Wednesday: Written by a Kid

You know I love Geek & Sundry's programming. From The Flog to Tabletop to the whole freaking line up, I think Geek & Sundry is doing more for weekly entertainment than anything on traditional TV, no matter where you get it (this includes Hulu). The concepts they bring up, while being a niche for being "Geeky", are done in such a fantastic way that it does more to open up these venues to the "mainstream" than any film or television adaptation of whatever part of the culture you could find. It doesn't just introduce these things, but shows how passionate we are to them and, most importantly, why we're passionate. Out of everything mentioned during the initial preview in March , the one that seemed out of place was Written by a Kid. It didn't seem bad, just sandwiched between stuff like Dark Horse Motion Comics and Sword and Laser, it was on it's own little island, probably would be the least receptive of all the shows on the network, and I honestly didn't know how well the show would be received. Boy, I was proven wrong with today's premier episode.

Stu’s Web Wednesday: Thomas ‘TomSka’ Ridgewell

There are times when I see a video a like and just stay there. I've learned that's generally not the right way to go when it comes to the Internet. Seeing that in this Wild West world of online video (Wiki Wild Wild even. And now you have the entire song stuck in your head. You're welcome.), a lot of the time the one video can lead into so much more awesome than one can imagine. That has definately been the case with TomSka for me. I got hooked with, arguably, his most famous productions then finally just recently branched out to all the other sketches he's done and found his type of sketch comedy and action is not only right up my alley, but also types of videos I'd love to produce.

Stu’s Web Wednesday: Tabletop

Usually with Web Wednesday I promote shows that I enjoy that are either smaller or generally doesn't seem to have as big a promotional net as others. Though I watch the occasional big market online show or channel, I usually think "They don't really need my help in promotion. My little bit won't do much." So I tend to avoid putting shows with big established names or promotional machines behind them unless it's one shot, goofy individual videos. Ironically in the post I linked, I say pretty much the exact same thing that I just said. However, this week is different.  This week, it's both, because this week's show is on Felicia Day's Geek and Sundry YouTube network and hosted by one of the Lords of the Nerds Wil Wheaton. So why am I writing about it? Because Tabletop is so good, so engaging, and so well produced that it makes me wish it was on mass market television, but makes me so glad it's not.
